Global Migration Film Festival is coming to Helsinki and Oulu
A documentary film called Morabeza, the Force of Movement will be screened in Helsinki and Oulu as part of IOM’s annual Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF).
The film is about the African island country Cabo Verde and the massive migration from the island into different countries that has taken place. It shares the stories of several Cabo Verdean migrants and their descendants while showing the island’s beautiful, mountainous and bare landscape. The migrants reflect on their integration to their new homelands, but at the same time tell about their sense of rootlessness and otherness. The interviews of Cabo Verdeans take the spectator to Paris, Lisbon and Rotterdam to explore culture and identity and to hear a range of unique life experiences.
The Global Migration Film Festival features films and documentaries that capture the promise and challenges of migration as well as the unique contributions that migrants make to their new communities. The goal of the festival is to pave the way for greater discussion around one of the greatest phenomena of our time. IOM launched the Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) in 2016, and the event has become a global celebration of culture and diversity.
